For the last few years, I have talked about intimate partner violence almost every day at work, whether in relation to routine screening, offering information and support or developing an understanding of what is happening for a family. As stated by the World Health Organization (WHO) (2016a), it is
one of the most important public health issues of recent years. I have also frequently talked about it outside of work, with nurses who are fellow students, colleagues and friends. These conversations have, at times, related to personal experience. Recently, I have begun to wonder whether nurses experience particularly high levels of intimate partner violence.
