A recent survey suggested that around 24.7% of 5-year-olds
now have some degree of dental decay, increasing to 56% in
more deprived parts of the country (Public Health England,
2016). Health visitors are well placed to educate parents both
before the birth of their children and at regular intervals
thereafter. While this guide is not intended to be prescriptive,
it provides a breakdown of the essential information parents
need to look after their child's teeth during the early years.
